Wattaroo Terms of Use

These terms cover the website at wattaroo.co and its waitlist, the Wattaroo web app at wattaroo.co/app, and the Wattaroo iPhone app once it is released. Our Privacy Policy explains what data we handle and is part of these terms.

1. Agreeing to these terms

By using Wattaroo you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use it.

2. Who can use Wattaroo

You must be 18 or older. We do not ask your age. By using Wattaroo you tell us you are 18 or older. Wattaroo is built for households in the United States, and the first test area is New York City.

3. What Wattaroo does

• Reads your utility bill on your own device.
• Shows programs you may qualify for, based on what you tell us and each program's published rules. It never says you qualify.
• Fills in application forms and letters from your own answers and your bill, so you can check, sign and send them.
• Tracks deadlines, renewals and the steps of each application.
• Estimates what appliances cost to run. Every number shows its source or says "estimate".

4. What Wattaroo does not do

• We are not a utility, a government agency or a law firm. We are not affiliated with Con Edison, National Grid or any other utility or agency, and none of them endorses us.
• We do not give legal, tax or financial advice. We fill forms from the facts you give us. If you need advice, ask a lawyer or a free legal-aid group.
• We do not decide who gets help. Only the program or agency decides, and its answer is the one that counts.
• We do not promise any amount of help or savings.
• We do not send or file anything for you. You send each form or letter yourself: from your own mail app, from a printout, or on the program's own website. Before a form or letter leaves your device or is copied out, Wattaroo shows what goes out and where, and asks you to tap "I authorize this" for that one application. That approval is not saved and does not carry to the next form.
• We do not move money. We never pay a bill, hold a benefit or receive a payment on your behalf.
• We do not send texts or make calls.

5. Check before you sign and send

Wattaroo reads bills and photos by machine and can make mistakes. Program rules, amounts and dates change, and the official program page is the final word. You are responsible for checking every fact on a form or letter, and for making sure your answers are true and complete, before you sign and send it.

You sign your own forms. Where Wattaroo lets you sign on your device, that signature is yours, and each agency decides whether it accepts one made that way. Paper is always an option.

6. Free help stays free

Everything that helps you get, keep or renew help with your bills is free: reading your bill, showing programs you may qualify for, filling in and tracking applications, and renewal reminders. We will never charge a share of any benefit you receive.

There are no paid plans today. If we add optional ones later, they will add extras, and we will show the price, the renewal date and how to cancel before you buy. We will not move anything that helps you get, keep or renew help behind a payment.

7. The website, the beta list and text messages

Joining the waitlist is free. It is not a purchase, a promise of access, a reserved place in line or an agreement to pay for anything. We may invite a limited group based on testing needs and location. To leave, use the link in our email or write to hello@wattaroo.co. Do not join with someone else's email address or phone number unless they asked you to.

Text messages. If you tick the text-message box when you join, you agree to receive text messages from Wattaroo LLC at the number you gave, about your beta access and app updates. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to cancel at any time, or HELP for help. Agreeing is not a condition of joining or using the beta. Wireless carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Our Privacy Policy explains what we keep about your choice.

The website's interactive example uses sample inputs to show a calculation. It does not measure your energy use or estimate your bill. Do not disable safety equipment, spoil food or do electrical work based on an example or estimate.

8. Your account

You can use Wattaroo without an account. If you sign in with Apple or Google, you are responsible for keeping that account secure. You can delete your account at any time in Account. The Privacy Policy says what that deletes. Keep a way to unlock your Backup: if the key is lost, we cannot recover it.

9. Acceptable use

Do not:

• use Wattaroo to make false or misleading applications, or to apply in someone's name without their permission,
• upload photos of other people, or documents that are not yours or your household's, to photo reading,
• break, overload, copy or reverse engineer Wattaroo or its servers, or work around its limits,
• call our servers from anything other than Wattaroo,
• use Wattaroo for anything illegal.

If you break these rules we may limit or close your access. We will tell you why when we can.

10. Our content and your content

Wattaroo, its design, text and the Roo mascot belong to us. You may use Wattaroo for your own household's needs. Program information comes from official public sources and shows the date we last checked it.

Your bills, forms and answers are yours. You let us process them only to run Wattaroo for you, as the Privacy Policy describes.

11. Estimates and outside information

Cost estimates, program lists, income limits, dates and amounts can be wrong or out of date. They are given as they are. Check the official program page and your bill.

12. No warranty

Wattaroo is provided "as is" and "as available". We do not promise that it will be error-free, always available, that the bill reader is always right, or that you will qualify, be approved or save money. Some places do not allow limits on warranties, so some of this may not apply to you.

13. Limit of our responsibility

We are responsible for harm we cause by our own fault, as the law requires. Beyond that, to the extent the law allows, we are not responsible for indirect or consequential losses, such as a missed deadline, a denied application or a shutoff that follows from information that was wrong or out of date. If we are found responsible for a loss, our total responsibility for all claims is limited to the greater of $100 or what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. None of this limits responsibility for fraud, gross negligence, willful misconduct, personal injury or anything the law does not allow us to limit. Some places do not allow some of these limits, so they may not apply to you.

14. Disputes and governing law

If something goes wrong, email hello@wattaroo.co first. Many problems can be fixed that way, and we will answer within 30 days.

Wyoming law governs these terms, except that you keep any protection your home state's consumer law gives you that cannot be waived by contract. There is no arbitration clause and no waiver of class actions or jury trial. You may bring a claim in a court in the county where you live, including small-claims court, and we will bring any claim against you only in a court where you live.

15. Accessibility

We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA. We have not yet verified that Wattaroo meets it, and we do not say that it does. If something does not work for you, such as with a screen reader, large text or switch control, tell us at hello@wattaroo.co and we will help you finish the task another way and work on the fix.

16. Changes

We may change these terms or Wattaroo. If a change matters, we will tell you in the app and on the website before it takes effect. The date at the top shows the latest version. If you keep using Wattaroo after a change takes effect, you accept it. If you do not accept it, you can stop and delete your data.

17. Ending your use

You can stop using Wattaroo at any time. We may stop offering it. If we do, we will give notice and a way to save the forms and letters you made.

18. Apple

When Wattaroo is on the App Store, these terms are between you and Wattaroo LLC, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app, its maintenance, support or any claim about it. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms for the iPhone app and may enforce them against you.

19. The rest

If part of these terms cannot be enforced, the rest still applies. These terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about Wattaroo.
