THE BETA, IN MINIATURE

Three things the beta does today.

Read a sample bill, estimate what an appliance costs to run, and see program routes to check. Nothing is submitted for you.

01
Bill reading on a sample bill

Wattaroo can read a sample Con Edison or National Grid PDF bill in your browser. Real bill uploads are not open in the beta yet. Try the sample bill.

02
Appliance running cost

Type a model number or label details to get a running-cost estimate. A photo cannot measure electricity, and there is no camera scan on the web.

03
Program routes

Programs we checked on each program’s own official page on October 31, 2026, listed by state. See the list. Checked means the page loads, names the program and says how to apply. We did not check eligibility, amounts or deadlines, so confirm them on the official page. Guidance and official links only; you send any form yourself.

EXAMPLE RUNNING COST

$36/ month (estimate)

1,000 W × 4 h/day × 30 days × $0.30/kWh = $36 per month. Example input, not your rate. Estimate.

$0.30 per running hour · $1.20 per day · about $438 per year

Before you switch

Look at the supply line on your own bill, compare offers, and check the official page first. Estimates are examples, not your rate.

ONE HOME. CLEARER ANSWERS.

Start with a question, not a gadget.

Wattaroo brings your bill, your appliances, and your program options together in one clear place.

01

What is on the bill?

Read a Con Edison or National Grid PDF bill in your browser and see the supply and delivery split. In the beta, try the sample bill.

Outcome: Sample bill breakdown

02

What does an appliance cost to run?

Type a model number or label details. You get a running-cost estimate from the wattage and hours you enter.

Outcome: Running-cost estimate

03

Which programs are worth a look?

Browse programs by state, each with its official page, opened on October 31, 2026. We did not check eligibility, amounts or deadlines, so confirm them on the official page before you apply.

Outcome: Official links and guidance

04

What is not in the beta?

Signing, paid plans, the supplier check, camera scan on the web, utility-account sync, and automatic submission.

Outcome: Not in the beta

Wattaroo is an independent household advocate. We are not affiliated with Con Edison, National Grid, or government agencies.

NYC CONTEXT

Why this matters now.

Household energy bills are often hard to explain. Wattaroo is not a utility or program administrator, and it is not affiliated with Con Edison, National Grid, or any government agency. These are official places to start.

~13%

Higher

New York’s average residential electricity price was about 13% higher in January–June 2026 than in January–June 2025. This is our average of NYSERDA’s monthly figures, which come from U.S. EIA data.

1.5M

More households

The State of New York estimates another 1.5 million households may be eligible for a discount through the Energy Affordability Program (EAP) or Enhanced EAP but have not enrolled.

Eligibility, availability, and discount amounts are determined by program providers.

MULTIPLE WAYS IN

More than one way to understand the same home.

Type a model number or the wattage on the label for a running-cost estimate.

SAMPLE ONLY

PLANNED / FUTURE

START WITH A CLUE

Bring what you already know.

The sample bill or an appliance label is enough to begin.

HOUSEHOLD QUESTIONS

The questions people actually ask.

  • What is on my Con Edison or National Grid bill?
  • What does a window air conditioner cost to run each month?
  • Is my energy supplier’s price on my bill, and can I compare it?
  • Which assistance programs may be worth checking?
  • What should I check before I apply for help?
  • Can renters and roommates use Wattaroo?

SHOW THE WORK

An answer should show why it deserves trust.

Wattaroo keeps your inputs, its estimates and official sources visible and separate.

EXAMPLE$36 / monthEstimate, not a bill
WHY

1,000 W × 4 h/day × 30 days × $0.30/kWh

SOURCE

Example inputs you can change. Not a utility rate.

CONFIDENCE

Estimate from the inputs only. Not a meter reading.

NEXT ACTION

Check your own bill and the official page.

What the example uses
A 1,000 W appliance, 4 hours a day, and a $0.30/kWh example rate.

What you tell us
The model or label details, hours, and rate you enter.

What Wattaroo estimates
A running cost from those inputs. Never a guarantee or a meter reading.

BUILT FOR RENTERS

Built for the apartment you actually live in.

Most energy tools assume you own the property, control every appliance, and can install monitoring hardware. The beta does not need any of those.

  • No electrical-panel installation
  • No smart plug required for the initial estimate
  • Transparent assumptions
  • Useful for renters and roommates
  • Manual entry remains available

FOUNDER

Built in New York, starting with New York.

Daniel M. Ortiz · Founder, Wattaroo LLC

New York utility bills can be hard to read. Wattaroo is being built right here in New York City as an independent advocate for everyday households: clearer bill reading, honest estimates, and a route to official programs.

GOOD QUESTIONS

Before you join.

Can I use Wattaroo today?

Wattaroo is a small, invite-only beta that starts in New York City. Joining the waitlist confirms your email. It does not give you access. Invites go out in small batches.

What does Wattaroo actually do?

In the beta, you can try bill reading on a sample bill; real uploads are not open yet. Wattaroo also estimates what an appliance costs to run from the model or label details you type, and shows official program routes. You send any form yourself.

Is Wattaroo only an appliance scanner?

No. The beta has three parts: bill reading, appliance running-cost estimates and program routes. There is no camera scan on the web.

Are the costs estimates?

Yes. A running cost is an estimate from the wattage, hours and electricity rate you enter. It is not a meter reading or a guaranteed bill amount.

Does the camera measure electricity?

No. A photo cannot measure electricity, and there is no camera scan on the web. Type the model number or label details instead.

Do I need hardware?

No. You need no smart plugs, no panel work and no utility login.

Can renters use it?

Yes. The beta is built with renters and roommates in mind and starts in New York City.

Are future utility connections live today?

No. Utility-account sync is not in the beta, and real bill uploads are not open yet. Try the sample bill.

Does Wattaroo guarantee savings?

No. Wattaroo does not guarantee savings. Program providers decide eligibility, availability and any credit amount.

Does Wattaroo guarantee rebates or program eligibility?

No. Program providers decide eligibility, approval and terms. Wattaroo shows official links and guidance. A program may qualify for you only when its provider confirms it.

What data does the waitlist collect?

The waitlist collects your first and last name, email, and mobile phone, plus an optional ZIP code and two optional consents: product updates by email and text messages. It does not require a utility login or precise location.

What happens after I join?

We send a six-digit code to your email to confirm it. Joining does not give access. Each invite link works once, on the device where you open it.
